The government has announced it is moving thousands of civil servants out of London to offices across the country, with the creation of hundreds of Energy posts in Aberdeen.

CIVIL SERVICE ENERGY JOBS TO MOVE TO ABERDEEN

It is aiming to cut the number of roles in London by 12,000 and close 11 offices in the capital to save £94m a year by 2032.

The changes will see two new government campuses opened in Manchester and Aberdeen, and roles created in other towns and cities. The Manchester campus will focus on AI and innovation, while the Aberdeen one will focus on Energy.

In addition to Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh are set to benefit from the move north of the Border.

There are currently 25,135 UK government civil service jobs in Scotland with 22 departments, including 9,970 full-time equivalent jobs in Glasgow, which is home to the Cabinet Office’s second headquarters, as well as 3,485 in Edinburgh and an additional 645 posts now set for Aberdeen.

As well as the jobs moving to Aberdeen, the government has said it will establish an energy campus in the city. Aberdeen will become home to both the second HQ for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and the base for GB Energy.
