Miatta Fahnbulleh appointed new Secretary of State at DESNZ

In the appointment of his first Cabinet, new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has appointed Peckham MP, Miatta Fahnbulleh to the role of Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), replacing Ed Miliband who has become Foreign Secretary.

Ms Fahnbulleh, returns to the department where she was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Energy Consumers from June 2024 to September 2025.

Katie White MP has been promoted from unpaid Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Climate to become Minister of State


Lord Patrick Vallance has stepped down from his DESNZ roles in the House of Lords, as has Lord Alan Whitehead who was only promoted from his unpaid role to the paid post of Minister of State 4 weeks ago.
