This means that they are not eligible to work on Government schemes until they do.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) mid scheme review of the Heat Training Grant, is based on findings of a survey of those who successfully completed heat pump installation training under the scheme.
It found that 74% of all respondents said that they (or the company that they work for) had not gone on to become MCS or Trustmark registered upon completing subsidised training under the HTG.
The £5 million Heat Training Grant (HTG) supports installers in England taking training relevant to heat pumps and heat networks.
Since the launch of the HTG, a total of 5,238 training certificates have been redeemed by training providers registered under the HTG between quarter 1 (April to June) of the financial year ending (FYE) 2024 and quarter 3 (October to December) FYE 2025.
The Heat Training Grant Mid Scheme Review provides survey results from existing heating installers who have successfully completed the relevant heat pump training through the HTG.
The survey covers a number of areas to assess the performance of the HTG, including:
- salary impact;
- rate of heat pump installations; and
- rate of certification
DESNZ says the data tables are ‘a snapshot of the HTG performance results’ but ‘will be used to help inform future policy decisions’.
