MORE SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS AND MILITARY SITES TO BENEFIT FROM GREAT BRITISH ENERGY SOLAR FUNDING

Communities across Britain are set to benefit from extra investment in clean energy after the Government confirmed up to £75million in new funding for solar panels through Great British Energy.

MORE SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS AND MILITARY SITES TO BENEFIT FROM GREAT BRITISH ENERGY SOLAR FUNDING

The money will help around 50 additional schools, 70 NHS sites and several military bases cut energy costs, on top of £180million already committed earlier this year. In total, the expanded £255million scheme will support around 250 schools, 270 NHS sites and 15 Ministry of Defence locations.
A new partnership between Great British Energy and the Ministry of Defence will see solar panels and micro-wind turbines installed across a range of military sites, including remote training areas and equipment stations. The savings generated will be reinvested into essential defence priorities, while NHS sites - from large teaching hospitals to community and mental health facilities - will benefit from lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.
The Government also announced measures to ensure the growing clean energy sector creates secure, well-paid jobs. A forthcoming Clean Energy Jobs Plan will guarantee fair pay and stronger rights for renewable energy workers, including those offshore. A new Fair Work Charter will set standards for companies receiving public funds, while legislation will be introduced to end new onshore oil and gas licensing in England, helping to cement Britain’s transition to a clean energy future.
