TRUSTMARK SEEKS INDUSTRY VIEWS ON FUTURE CONSUMER PROTECTION

TrustMark is inviting businesses and organisations across the home improvement sector to have their say on the future of consumer protection.

TRUSTMARK SEEKS INDUSTRY VIEWS ON FUTURE CONSUMER PROTECTION

The consultation follows the publication of TrustMark's recent research into consumer understanding and expectations of protection when having work carried out in their homes. The research highlighted significant gaps in consumer awareness, with almost three-quarters of consumers saying they did not know about the protections available to them.

TrustMark is now seeking views from across the industry as it considers how consumer protection can be made clearer, simpler and more effective.

The issue is particularly relevant to the energy efficiency and retrofit sector as activity increases and significant investment is directed towards improving homes across the UK. Maintaining consumer confidence will be essential, but any future framework also needs to work effectively for the reputable businesses and installers responsible for delivering that work.

The Energy Efficiency Association believes strong consumer protection and a strong, sustainable supply chain must go hand in hand. Clear standards, responsibilities and routes to redress can protect householders while also supporting businesses committed to delivering high-quality work.

We would encourage EEA members and others across the sector to look at the consultation and contribute their views. The experience of those delivering work on the ground will be important in helping shape a system that protects consumers while remaining practical and workable for industry.
