Gill Kiy MBE Future Supply Chain Strategy Lead Department for Energy Security & Net Zero
|
Gill Kiy is the Net Zero Buildings Future Supply Chain Strategy lead within the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. Gill joined the Department in October 2023 and is looking forward to working with the sector to build skills and create long sustainable career pathways in retrofit roles. Previously Gill was the Regulatory Interventions Lead in the Building Safety Programme at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities. Gill worked in the Building Safety Programme from September 2017 until October 2023 taking forward the Government’s response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review and leading on the development of policy and legislation in the Building Safety Act. Galvanising the sector to embrace the reforms and embed them into day to day practices. Gill was previously in the Department for Business working on competition and consumer matters including providing sponsorship for the Competition and Markets Authority and trade policy. Before joining Department for Business the Gill has worked in a number of regulators including the Food Standards Agency and the Health and Safety Executive.

Ian Rippin Chief Executive Offices MCS

Ian is CEO of MCS, a profit for purpose organisation operating at the heart of the UK’s adoption of renewable energy sources for our homes and small businesses. MCS is responsible for the national Standards that cover low carbon products and their installation, used to produce electricity and heat from renewable sources. Ian is leading MCS through a period of transformational change as the organisation strives to inspire a next generation of home-grown energy, fit for the needs of every UK home and community. He started his career in telecommunications with British Telecom (BT), culminating in leading BT’s offshore operations in India. Over the last 15 years he has held leadership roles focused on organisational turnaround and restructuring, including for the UK Environment Agency’s National Laboratory Service and for the Canadian Standards Association’s UK operations as a world leader in explosion safety and environmental product certification. His career underpins his passion for quality and the role that standards play in protecting consumers. Ian is a member of the UK government’s Green Jobs Delivery Group, Solar Industry Taskforce and the Electrification of Heat Taskforce.

Michael Gallagher Director of Environment & Sustainability (Interim)

After studying Earth and Environmental Science at Lancaster University, Michael spent a year teaching in Hong Kong before starting his career working at the Energy Saving Trust in Nottingham. The role developed into consultancy work, delivering fuel poverty related SLAs with Local Authorities in the Midlands. Michael then worked for Mark Group, Leicester as a Solar PV system designer working on large-scale social housing, Local Authority and commercial projects; later moving on to work for JJM, Derby as Operations Manager, overseeing the supply and installation of building integrated solar PV across the UK for the construction sector. During this time, he gained a MSc in Energy and Industrial Sustainability from De Montfort University. Michael has most recently worked as Head of Midlands Net Zero Hub (funded by Department of Energy Security and Net Zero) and is responsible for a team that is delivering over £400million of funding across community energy, retrofit, MEES Enforcement, skills & training and large scale energy project development; at present Michael is also interim Director of Environment & Sustainability at Nottingham City Council.

| Changing lives by preparing people to work in Engineering and Construction. October 2024 - Clifford saw the opening of the MK College Green Skills Centre. It is a key step in the development of the Green Skills training courses offered by the college. Initially three electrical based courses are available, targeted at existing professionals, teaching how to install energy storage systems, electric car charge points and solar panels. The hope is to expand the offerings to a wider range of learners. Clifford is a member of the Energy Efficiency Association regional council for the East of England.

I’ve worked in senior roles across the housing sector for over 25 years, both for Local Authorities and Housing organisations, mainly in the sustainability, energy, environmental, and Asset Management fields. I’ve also worked as a Director at a national charity (NEA) managing a £26 million Redress fund on behalf of Ofgem and Central Government. This involved working on over 100 projects across the UK, working with Local Authorities and Housing Associations to deliver energy improvements to over 8,500 homes. For the last 5 years, I’ve been working with Daikin UK, working closely with DESNZ, and key energy and delivery partners on a variety of low carbon and innovation projects. My main work involves supporting Local Authorities and Housing organisations, raising awareness of new government policies, funding opportunities, and supporting the low carbon journey.
