The EEA is pleased to invite you to join members from the energy efficiency sector, training providers and skills certification bodies, for a one day conference in Birmingham.

This conference brings together all the main stakeholders involved in skills development and delivery in the UK in order to help the energy efficiency sector gear up for increased demand for skilled, qualified and experienced people to address the pressing shortages in the industry.

Gary Braybrooke is a distinguished leader in the energy efficiency sector, serving as the founding Chief Executive of the Energy Efficiency Association (EEA). He is widely recognised for his exceptional ability to foster collaboration across the industry and his unwavering commitment to advancing energy efficiency and combating fuel poverty. Before founding the EEA, Gary was instrumental in the creation of the Energy Efficiency Awards, which he has successfully managed for the past decade. These awards have become a cornerstone of the industry, highlighting and celebrating excellence in energy efficiency. With a professional background in publishing and sales, Gary brings a wealth of experience in communication and stakeholder engagement. His expertise has been pivotal in driving the success of the initiatives he leads. In his personal life, Gary is an ardent supporter of Liverpool FC and a dedicated cricket enthusiast.

Kenneth Campbell is Chairman of the Energy Efficiency Association CiC, Co-Founder of the National Energy Efficiency Awards and Director of Campbell Braybrooke Ltd. As Association Chairman, Kenneth has a particular interest in new energy efficient technologies,investment in and funding for energy efficiency, supply chain delivery, and skills and training for the energy efficiency sector. Kenneth has Bachelor of Science degree from Glasgow University where he studied Computer Science along with Biochemistry and Physiology.

Dave began his career as a CITB apprentice before moving into teaching Carpentry and Joinery part-time at Barnfield College in 2000, later joining full-time in 2002. He taught and assessed NVQs while completing a CertEd and participating in the Subject Learning Coach programme. In 2008, Dave became Head of Construction at Bedford College, where he earned a Master’s in Education focused on Strategic Leadership and Management. He coached new staff and aspiring managers, and following the 2018 merger with Tresham College, joined the senior leadership team as Director of Construction and Building Services. In August 2022, Dave was appointed Vice Principal at Bedford Campus, overseeing strategic leadership and curriculum areas including Construction, Engineering, Science, Computing, and Motor Vehicle. He has led major projects such as the £11m Wellingborough Campus renovation and the £4.5m Offsite Construction Training Centre. Dave has been active in BACH since 2008, serving as National Chair from 2019–2021, helping shape national construction training policy. He has also driven initiatives like Heritage projects, Apprenticeships, and Higher Education programmes. Most recently, he developed the College’s strategy for Skills Competitions and partnered with WorldSkills UK to embed skills excellence into teaching and staff development.

Ian is CEO of MCS, a profit for purpose organisation operating at the heart of the UK’s adoption of renewable energy sources for our homes and small businesses. MCS is responsible for the national Standards that cover low carbon products and their installation, used to produce electricity and heat from renewable sources. Ian is leading MCS through a period of transformational change as the organisation strives to inspire a next generation of home-grown energy, fit for the needs of every UK home and community. He started his career in telecommunications with British Telecom (BT), culminating in leading BT’s offshore operations in India. Over the last 15 years he has held leadership roles focused on organisational turnaround and restructuring, including for the UK Environment Agency’s National Laboratory Service and for the Canadian Standards Association’s UK operations as a world leader in explosion safety and environmental product certification. His career underpins his passion for quality and the role that standards play in protecting consumers. Ian is a member of the UK government’s Green Jobs Delivery Group, Solar Industry Taskforce and the Electrification of Heat Taskforce.

Luke has been a driving force in skills development, apprenticeships, and green careers across the South West for over seven years. With a career rooted in education and industry collaboration, he has consistently championed initiatives that bridge the skills gap and create sustainable pathways into employment. Luke began his journey at Exeter College as a Training and Recruitment Advisor in Apprenticeships, where he fostered partnerships with employers and supported learners in achieving their career goals. Progressing into project and leadership roles, he played a key role in shaping Exeter College’s Green Skills curriculum, including the launch of innovative insulation programmes. As Skills Manager within the Apprenticeships and Future Skills team, Luke led the creation and growth of the Green Skills Advisory Panel (GSAP). What started as a regional forum has since evolved into a thriving network of over 200 businesses, 20 regional centres across the UK, and international partnerships in Malawi and Nepal. Under his leadership, GSAP became a nationally recognised, member-led community supported by local authorities, charities, and training providers. Its mission is to champion and advance sustainable training and education opportunities within housing, construction, engineering, and manufacturing. Alongside GSAP, Luke is also the Project Manager of Building Greater Exeter, where he works closely with employers, educators, and stakeholders to address the skills shortage in construction and the built environment. Through this role, he leads collaborative projects that raise awareness of career opportunities, inspire the next generation, and ensure the region has the skilled workforce it needs to thrive.

Passionate about education and representation in construction, Charlene serves on several industry boards and advisory committees, championing opportunities for young people and women entering the sector. She brings over 20 years’ experience in sustainability and ethics, including leading Sainsbury’s Ethics & Sustainability function for Clothing and General Merchandise and helping establish its involvement in the Bangladesh Accord. She has also founded a CSR consultancy and a sustainable children’s swimwear brand. Her current work explores how higher education can combine creative AI use with critical thinking, embedding practical skills development throughout learning and assessment.

The conference will address what the industry needs to do to ensure improved uptake of energy efficiency measures and what we can do to overcome barriers that often threaten the delivery of such schemes. With over 35 years experience in the effects of Climate Change, Darren is a leading expert on the challenges of refurbishment and renovation to meet legislative, funding and sustainability obligations, and compliance. Darren has worked in the refurbishment sector for the past 25 years, advising clients and their construction teams on best practice and helping to deliver system solutions which cut energy usage, reduce fuel poverty, and improve building aesthetics. Focusing on the development of renewable technologies in commercial and domestic heating and cooling he has been responsible for bringing ground-breaking systems to market in the UK and Europe. Fred has worked in the energy industry for over 15 years, starting in 2009 as an intern at EDF Energy. For the last 8 years he has been Investment Director at AIM Investment Holdings, where he raised and deployed £800m across renewable energy strategies. Alongside this, he part-owned a developer that built seven hydropower schemes in Scotland, selling the business to a UK pension fund in 2025.

Matthew has delivered large scale retrofit frameworks for local authorities and housing associations, embedding data driven asset modelling and lifecycle carbon analysis. He also leads the delivery of national audit programmes for both central government and arm's length bodies, driving assurance, governance, and technical compliance across funded and non funded schemes. Recognised as a RESi Trailblazer (Property Week, 2024) for advancing low carbon housing, he regularly speaks on heat decarbonisation, retrofit, and the just transition at national forums such as Futurebuild and Policy Forum for Wales. His technical expertise spans building physics, energy modelling, and net zero strategy development, positioning him as a trusted advisor on achieving compliance and consumer confidence in retrofit delivery.

Taking place at Aintree Racecourse on Wednesday 18th November 2026, this regional Meet The Contractor event brings together contractors, suppliers and key organisations from across the Merseyside energy efficiency and Warm Homes supply chain.

This is not a traditional conference. It is a focused networking and collaboration event designed to connect contractors, local authorities, retrofit and energy efficiency specialists, manufacturers, suppliers and other organisations involved in delivering energy efficiency and Warm Homes projects.

With 40 exhibition stands and 8 dedicated Meet & Greet stands, attendees will have plenty of opportunities to meet potential partners, discover new products and services, build relationships and explore opportunities across the region.

The event will also feature three dedicated workshops, offering attendees the opportunity to take part in practical discussions, share industry knowledge and explore key topics affecting the energy efficiency and Warm Homes sector.

The session will explore how preliminary market engagement can help identify new products, services and delivery models, shape future innovation trials and inform procurement activity. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their expertise, showcase innovative approaches and help develop scalable solutions that reduce costs, build homeowner confidence and accelerate retrofit uptake across the region.

Leader of Knowsley Council

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority

Councillor Graham Morgan has served as Leader of Knowsley Council since 2018. During this time, he has overseen some of the most significant transformation projects ever witnessed in Knowsley including the purchase and development of Kirkby town centre and the creation of the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot. Councillor Morgan was elected to the Council in 1995 and took his first seat on Cabinet in 2000. He has held a number of different Cabinet positions since then including Leisure, Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Economic Development. His experience in local government is extensive and during his tenure as Leader of the Council he has witnessed significant challenges and change, not least as a key contributor to the Merseyside wide response to, and recovery from, the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, Councillor Morgan’s priority is to ensure that Knowsley is recognised and funded adequately as part of the reset of the relationship between national and local government, and that residents in Knowsley are given the support they need to thrive. Councillor Morgan is the Deputy Mayor for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, as well as the City Region’s Housing and Regeneration Cabinet Lead – overseeing a broad range of work including the Liverpool City Region’s delivery of Brownfield Land Funds, the trailblazing Housing First programme, and a range of housing retrofit programmes which are helping to reduce household energy costs. He is also a Member of the Liverpool City Region Innovation Zone Management Board, and the Combined Authority’s Audit and Governance Committee. In addition to this, Councillor Morgan is one of the Liverpool City Region’s nominations to the North West Regional Leaders’ Board. Councillor Morgan is also the Vice Chair for SIGOMA (Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities), a key special interest group within the Local Government Association (LGA) ensuring member authorities have the sufficient, sustainable and fair funding needed to maintain vital services and continue investing in their local areas.

Marissa has worked across built environment roles in Sydney, London and the North West in planning, design, energy and infrastructure. David has over 25 years experience in the energy field, an Environmental Science degree and a Masters degree in Climate Change & Sustainable Development. He started his professional career at the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development. This involved researching strategic urban energy management, publishing papers and working with Leicester Energy Agency / the Leicester Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. This led to employment with Merseyside Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, before running the Cheshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre amongst other home energy efficiency projects. David joined Sefton Council in 2001 to become the main home energy officer. His role expanded to develop more renewable energy installations, European projects and directed the fuel poverty programme. As a local energy officer David was elected Chair of the Northwest Association of Local Energy Officers (ALEO) for 7 years and spent of 4 of those years as National Vice Chair. David joined the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority in December 2021 to help deliver their retrofit projects. David has worked on SHDF wave 1, LAD 2, SWF, HUG2 and SHDF wave 2.1. David is also leading on the two Warm Homes programmes for the Liverpool City Region Consortium.

In February 1839, Lottery became the first winner of the Grand Liverpool Steeplechase, the race that would become known as the Grand National. Horses had to jump a stone wall, cross a stretch of ploughed land and finish over two hurdles.

 

Mr Edward William Topham, a respected handicapper, was responsible for turning the Grand National into a handicap in 1843 after it had been a weight-for-age race for the first four years. The Topham family owned substantial tracts of land around Aintree and in 1949 they bought the course outright from Lord Sefton, from whom the land had previously been leased since the racecourse’s opening in 1829.

 

Throughout the year many dreams were shuttered and legends created.  It was over 40 years ago now that Red Rum recorded the first of the three victories in the Grand National that earned him pride of place in the record books forever. He still remains the only horse to have won the Grand National three times and, as that statistic suggests, the great horse was a phenomenon.

 

The current course, which stages races over conventional fences and hurdles, opened in 1839. A difficult period for Aintree in the post-war years led to a sale to a property developer and concerns about the future of the Grand National. Bookmaker Ladbrokes stepped in to manage the Grand National until 1984, when Seagram Distillers became sponsors.

 

They provided the solid foundation on which Aintree’s revival was built. Today Aintree is owned and managed by Jockey Club Racecourses, one of 14 operated by The Jockey Club subsidiary.

 

The 2014 Grand National boasted a seven-figure prize fund for the first time, which was replicated in the subsequent years.

 

The Grand National is completely unscripted and totally captivating, steeped in a history of unpredictable winners and fabulous stories. The next chapter is ready to be written.

Sandown Park is a horse racing course and leisure venue in Esher, Surrey, England, located in the outer suburbs of London. It hosts 5 Grade One National Hunt races and one Group 1 flat race, the Eclipse Stakes. It regularly has horse racing during afternoons, evenings and on weekends, and also hosts many non-racing events such as trade shows, wedding fairs, toy fairs, car shows and auctions, property shows, concerts, and even some private events. It was requisitioned by the War Department from 1940 to 1945 for World War II.

Directions

The racecourse is located in a picturesque parkland setting in the town of Esher, Surrey. It is within the M25, easily accessed via the A3 and only 15 miles from South West London, with plentiful parking.

Parking

Parking is free in the centre of the racecourse, which you can reach from the More Lane entrance. Please note that the course will be shut for approximately 10 minutes before and after each race as there will be horses on the course. The entrance/exit will otherwise be open/re-opened.
