8th Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy in ten years
New Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced a new cabinet of Ministers and has seen fit to appoint Grant Shapps MP to the role of Secretary of State at the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
Mr Shapps takes over from Jacob Rees-Mogg, whose seven weeks in the role were unremarkable.
Grant Shapps was previously Transport secretarty, and as such has said quite a bit about Net Zero commitments, and the need to address energy efficiency in the automotive and transport sectors.
The new Secretary, the 8th in 10 years, will have a somewhat stable team arround him as it looks like Graham Staurt MP will remain the Minister of State for Climate (the 11th in 10 years) and Lord Callanan with remain the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Energy in the House of Lords (just the 4th in 10 years)
